Email First, if you just remember one thing from this article, remember – never swim in a marina. Because in a marina, you have people, water and electricity. When everything is working properly, that is a recipe for fun and great times. But, if just one wire chafes through its insulation and shorts to ground, there is the potential for tragedy. Every boat owner owes it to his boating friends to maintain his boat and to ensure there are no electrical shorts, but that is difficult.

There are many choice Marinas and Yacht Clubs on the Maine Coast to service your nautical needs – everything from servicing your boat to providing a safe harbor and place to stay overnight. You will find beautiful so-called hurricane holes, rivers and harbors in Maine that provide safety for a good night’s sleep on your boat, and services that you crave after being out at sea for a day or more.
Some dock slips even provide WiFi, phone and cable TV hookup for your boat. Certain Marinas may even provide you with freshly cooked lobster and entertainment, a place to barbeque, and a lounge for visiting yachters. Some private yacht clubs offer reciprocity to visiting yachters that belong to affiliated yacht clubs, be sure to check with your home yacht club and the yacht club on your sailing itinerary.
Fees associated with an overnight mooring or dock slip in Maine depends upon the marina or yacht club and the time of year. July and August are the most prime months for cruising the Maine coast and therefore you should call or radio ahead to reserve your dock or mooring space, providing the name and length of your boat and your dates of stay.
You will then be given a price per foot from the marina or boat yard and location of your dock slip – which may be a face dock or located within the marina. Some Maine marinas are within walking distance to great Maine restaurants and shops, while others are remote, located on islands or peninsulas. We have provided their marina offerings and location, but be sure to call ahead or hail them on your VHF radio to confirm the service and dock space or mooring for your boat trip.

We are the second owner of this fine cruiser. It was purchased new in and immediately hauled to Bigwater and put in indoor storage, where it is, to this day. If it hasn’t been on Lake Powell, it’s been in inside storage. New buyer has the option of continuing renting indoor storage from Bigwater Boat storage. Otherwise they have a waiting list.
This boat does it all at Powell, although we have never used it for watersports, it likely could. Wake up in the morning as it sleeps 6, unhook from your nights beach campsite, start the coffee, begin trolling for stripers and whatever else is tempted. Rod holders for trolling included. After finding your new beach campsite, set up the BBQ grill and break out some ice cold drinks, enjoy the sites and sounds.

We’ll let you choose the one that fits your budget: You’ll have to make sure that the radio receiver is in a place that will “see” the satellites for best results. This could be either a factory installation or a retrofit. I will address 1 and 2 above, since they are within reach of most boaters. As was mentioned before, NMEA is a newer standard which allows proprietary plugs to be linked together under certain installation rules.

By Jim Hendricks posted Jun 14th, at 2: A riser from Seaview seaviewglobal. These TVs are compact, light and energy efficient. Thanks to compact, rugged and sophisticated marine satellite TV antennas from companies such as Intellian intelliantech. However, satellite TV signals are aimed at land, so the smaller the antenna, the less likely it will pick up a signal when venturing offshore. Bigger is better for blue-water boaters.
Antenna Mounting Choose an elevated and level location clear of obstructions. Mount the dome above any radar antennas. This may require a special riser from a company such as Seaview seaviewglobal. Otherwise, use the template to drill the mounting holes and cut the central hole in the proper places. Bolt the antenna in position, sealing the holes to prevent water intrusion.
Antenna Cable Securely connect the supplied foot-long RF coax cable to the RF-1 port on the bottom of the antenna and run it down into the cabin where you plan to position the antenna control unit ACU. A second RF cable is needed if you want multiple onboard sat TV receivers. Once mounted, plug in the supplied power cord to the back of the ACU and connect the other end to a to volt DC source.
The following list includes national, state and provincial parks, private campgrounds and RV “Resorts”. Some would be considered “destinations”, while others are merely stopovers we’ve encountered en route. Our preferences are for places where the sites are spacious, the views interesting, the facilities clean and adequate, with friendly and professional management. We’re not particularly keen on urban locations, train or highway noise, or video arcades.
Hookups are certainly a convenience, but some more primitive locations can be superb without them. Thus in the lists which follow, you’ll find RV parks that fit into virtually all categories.
The west end of SML, including the unincorporated town of Moneta, is closest to Roanoke, Virginia (population ,). The east end, including Huddleston, is closest to Lynchburg, Virginia (population 70,). Both Roanoke and Lynchburg are within minutes drive time for most lake residents.
Otago Daily Times Filed Under: ATV Utility Vehicle Hunting Buggy – The rear electric atv motor is visible mounted on the rear axle of the Barefoot Motors electric ATV prototype Electric all-terrain vehicles may not impress the dune-and trail-riding crowd that rides for recreation, but a few small companies expect organic farmers and vineyard growers will pay a premium to gather cattle and spray vines without the carbon footprint of a gas vehicle.
While automakers are toiling to produce electric cars that will fit the demands of American drivers, Ashland-based Barefoot Motors is on the verge of turning out heavy-duty electric ATVs that can go 50 miles on a charge costing about 90 cents. She’d like to haul her spraying equipment without fogging the vines with exhaust fumes, and the electric ATV motors could get free power from the vineyard’s solar panels.
It’s even more cost-efficient for farms producing their own power from solar panels or manure digesters, and as gas prices go up. Barefoot is not the first electric ATV coming to market. Bad Boy Buggies in Natchez, Mississippi, has vehicles intended for hunters.

I’ve been looking forward to a stopover here in West Palm Beach, but the temperature has been in the forties since we arrived, and we only ventured ashore once, for dinner last night. Friday night found us anchored just upstream of the St. Lucie Lock and Dam map , across from the very familiar Corps of Engineers campground and docks. The docks are inexpensive and include power, but Vector exceeds the length limit.
It was a quiet night. CoE campground, where we stayed more than once in Odyssey, and docks, as seen from our anchorage. Saturday we awoke to fog and the tugs and barges of a dredging operation locking through and passing us close aboard. With only a short couple of hours to Stuart, we might have had a lazy morning, except that there is a shallow section just downriver of the Palm City Bridge that we can not pass at low tide, and so we needed to weigh anchor at 9am.
That made for a high-tide start, and by the time we finished locking down, we had the river current and a bit of tide behind us for a fair run.

Safe Shorepower By Don Casey However you bring shorepower aboard your boat, if you do it without the appropriate safeguards, you place yourself, your crew, and your guests at a terrible — and foolish — risk. Three-Conductor System AC circuits use three wires, and it is essential to your safety to understand the function of each. Because the direction of current flow in an AC circuit is reversing times per second 60 positive-to-negative-and-back-to-positive cycles , it is counter-intuitive to refer to one side of an AC circuit as positive and the other as negative.
Instead, we call one side hot, the other side neutral. By code the hot wire in an AC circuit is black, red, or blue; the neutral wire is always white. Since the neutral side is connected to ground, it is the hot side of the circuit that is the most dangerous. However, you should always treat both sides with equal respect because a wire reversal to the outlet will make the neutral side hot.
A short to the case instantly becomes a short to ground, probably opening the breaker in the circuit. Even if the short is insufficient to kick the breaker, or if it occurs while you are holding the appliance, the grounding wire still protects you by providing a lower-resistance path to ground than your body offers. Anything that degrades or opens the grounding circuit, such as a broken connection, a corroded or missing ground prong, or an improperly wired outlet leaves you dangerously vulnerable.
Ashore the grounding wire is often bare, but in boat wiring it should be insulated and green. We will come back to this all-important green wire. Inlet Fitting and Dock Cord A safe shorepower system begins with a weather-tight inlet fitting.

Some reviews have been grossly unfair which is why I’m writing-I don’t’ write many reviews. This isn’t a “resort” type park, but a great small park right on the lake. Heck, they even have free kayaks to use! It is a park divided by Lakeshore Blvd, with a few sites on the waterfront and the remainder across the road which appeared to be fine basic sites as well.
This is an RV park without grass between sites but with plenty of trees around, just not between the sites. The sites by the water are short for a 40′ motorhome, but they do allow large rigs in them which stick out into the drive.
